Jay Nierenberg
Supervising Sound Editor

Home Town: New York, NY
First Concert: Woodstock

“I love telling a good story, working alongside other storytellers. And whatever your craft, it’s all about how to best tell it. I believe sound can be a wonderfully rich and effective tool to this end.” Jay Nierenberg entered post production in an unlikely way: as a cab driver in New York. He was hired to work on his first film, The Suicide Club, by an editor who was picking up and transporting dailies to Du Art for the independent feature she was shooting. He was driving the cab she flagged down near Grand Central Station. Even though he was a journalism major at NYU, this experience evolved into a full-time job. In 1990, Nierenberg returned to acting and relocated to Los Angeles, taking on sound editorial work between gigs. Although his acting career never really took off, his sound career did. He now boasts over 120 feature film credits, more than half as supervising sound editor.
