Fairfield and Kimmel are part of the HBO juggernaut “Game of Thrones,” creating expansive, rich sounds for an environment filled with undead horror, mythical dragons and bloody battles. Since 2013, they’ve earned four Emmy nominations and a win for the episode “Hardhome.” For them, understanding the sonic vision is vital. “Finding words to describe an intangible thing can be difficult,” says Fairfield. “But when you conceptualize with the creator and finding an approach that gives great depth, you find out how emotional and subjective sound can be to help tell the story.” Both Kimmel and Fairfield are on the final season of “GOT,” which, Fairfield says, “will redefine the word epic.”
